Spike Lee’s ‘Red Hook Summer’ Co-Producer On Racial Stereotypes In Movies: Sundance (Deadline Hollywood)
When Spike Lee premiered _Red Hook Summer_ at Sundance, media seemed to
disregard everything he had to say, save for a short diatribe about how
Hollywood doesn't understand how to depict African Americans in film. His co-
producer and co-writer James McBride wrote a thoughtful essay on the subject
that appeared on Lee's 40 Acres.com website, which is part of Lee's 40 Acres
and a Mule film company. I just caught up with it, and though it worth
repeating. Lee's 1986 film _She's Gotta Have It_ was, along with Steven
Soderbergh's _sex lies & videotape_ and a few others, a seminal film that
helped author the independent film revolution that is personified by Sundance.
It's a shame that Lee hasn't gotten his due as a great American filmmaker and
that he has been shut out by studios. I think his momentum was harmed when he
took a hard stance against Warner Bros in not cutting his near-masterpiece
_Malcolm X_, and his brilliance as a director continues to be overshadowed by
the misperception that he is the "angry African American." I interviewed him

Turkey fun for all the family by DTM
With its beautiful beaches, hospitality, history and wonderful views, Turkey is an excellent destination for a family holiday. Partly in Europe, but mostly in Asia, Turkey is a fascinating place to visit.
Although getting there can be inexpensive, you won’t feel you’re on a cheap holiday as you enjoy the locations of ancient civilisations, the superb scenery and a tasty kebab in the evening!
In the summer, Turkey is almost unbeatable for sun, and has beaches on the Mediterranean Sea in the south, the Aegean Sea to the west and the Black Sea to the north. By contrast, in winter, the snow-capped peaks make Turkey an alternative destination for skiers.
The city of Istanbul is not the capital of Turkey, but it is perhaps the most famous city in the country. The third largest city in the world, it is the only one to sit on two continents, as it does, astride the Bosporus strait; the two continents linked by the Bosporus Bridge. Istanbul was previously Byzantium and Constantinople, and the city has remarkable historical attractions such as the Topkapi Palace of the Ottoman Emperors, the Blue Mosque of the 17th Century, and the harbour of the Golden Horn.
Sun-seekers will make their way to the Mediterranean and Aegean resorts, and airports at Dalaman, Bodrum and Antalya help to serve these destinations. Flights can be cheap and flight times are less than five hours. Sun-filled Turkey holidays can be enjoyed in relaxed surroundings at Antalya, Bodrum, Fethiye, Marmaris, Oludeniz among others.
For culture lovers there is spectacular Ephesus, the biggest and best-preserved ancient city in the country. Established with a harbour on the mouth of the Cayster River, in the 2nd century BC the city became the most important port and commercial trading centre in Anatolia.
Near the centre of the country is the capital Ankara, where east and west come together, with suggestions of the mystical east and ancient civilisations lying partially hidden among 20th-century office buildings, shopping malls and government offices.
Turkey holidays can be affordable, attractive and fun for all the family.
