Stock certificates are legally approved papers issued by a company or an organization, to officially state the rights of the company shares to the stockholders or shareholders. In other words, a stock certificate or a share certificate is the physical proof of a person's ownership of shares in a company. Usually, a company raises its resources by issuing company shares with specific value. The capital which is being raised, can be used to manage huge investments required to begin any profitable business or just to raise its assets.
When a company intends to sell its shares to people, the need of stock certificates comes in the picture. The company shares are basically issued in the form of stock certificates to the people who buy these shares or to the shareholders. The company charges a nominal fee for issuing a certificate. The shareholder must keep the certificate secure, because if it is lost the former may charge him another nominal fee.
Company shares can be bought by anyone and can get a stock certificate. The latter is a proof of your ownership as a shareholder and with this certificate you have the right to take part in a number of events, like to vote within the company and more likely to participate in the annual general meetings of the company. Stock certificates have a particular value for which it is being purchased. If the company in which you hold shares makes great profits, automatically the worth of your shares rises as well as the stock certificate since a lot of people want share in that company.
